Welcome – Meet Leeony

Leeony holds a Masters Degree in Counselling Practice and is a Certified Practicing Counsellor and Affiliate Member (24194) with the Psychotherapist and Counsellor Federation of Australia, and as of 2024 has over 1600 contact hours of face to face client counselling.

Leeony has been counselling for over 18 years working with children, staff and families in primary school settings, as well as providing private counselling support to child and adult clients.

Currently in 2025, Leeony is a Counsellor Advocate working with victim survivors of family violence and sexual assault.

Leeony holds a current (2025) registration with the South Australian Teachers Board, a National Police Clearance, a current Department for Communities and Social Inclusion Screening for working with children and vulnerable persons, and a current First Aid Certificate (2024).

When counselling children and adults Leeony uses a person centred approach, applying the therapeutical approaches from Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Solution Focused Therapy, while using many proven techniques from psychology and other counselling modalities such as Narrative Therapy and Trauma Based Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (TB-CBT).

With children, Play Therapy can include sand play, using miniature animals, drawing, painting, collage and construction, puppets, games, using stories, and imaginative pretend play. With a teaching background, Leeony relates well to children and has a good understanding of child development.

Leeony has delivered the Seasons for Growth program developed by Good Grief to many children in primary schools, and is a facilitator of Toolbox Parenting and What’s the Buzz? social skills program. Leeony has also worked as a teacher in a hospital school for 5 years with children with multiple disabilities and terminal illness.

Currently in 2022 Leeony works full time as a School Counsellor and provides counselling support for students, staff and families, while also providing private counselling to clients.

An important part of Leeony’s approach to counselling is to facilitate change by providing the client with current resources and information to assist them in making their own choices.
